Dare to Change the Narrative

Honestly, this is really hard for me to write because my heart literally hurts so much… but I’ve talked to Chas and this is something I feel like needs to be written. And also, I may lose what little readers I have, but at this point I have to use my platform to shed a little light on the current subject. So sit back and I really hope that you’ll stick with me through this... and that you’ll truly think about the events that are occurring in our world right now and evaluate yourself and determine where you stand. Because at this point, no one can truly be indifferent.
So, if you haven’t been living under a rock, I’m sure you are quite aware of the state that our world is in. So frankly, I really don’t want to go over the details of recent events. But, I do want to say, his name was George Floyd. And his name needs to be remembered, as well as many others who have died in similar ways. But, I could sit here and rehash the whole situation and talk about how the officers involved were in the wrong, but again, I feel like everyone reading this has a Twitter or at least is aware of what has happened and is happening right now… so instead, I want to talk about something else today. I want to get to the root of the whole problem and really discuss this in a thoughtful way. And guys, the root of the problem is the fact that this country was built on slavery and racism, and even though it’s 2020, these ideals and attitudes are still very much alive.
Before I proceed any further, I want to go ahead and say that I in no way can truly understand or relate with everything that is going on and being done to the black community and other POC. I have never had to worry about being attacked at a park because of the color of my skin. I’ve never been told to “go back to where I came from”. I’ve never had to really worry if I was going to come home alive if I left my house… and this is just a small sampling of events and feelings that people who are not born white have to deal with, all because of the color of their skin. The skin that God gave them.
What really puzzles me the most about this world and this attitude that has been ingrained into society is the fact that we are all THE EXACT SAME biologically. The ONLY difference between us is the amount of melanin in our skin, which is simply an adaptation based on what part of the planet we each originated from. Other than that, we are all humans. We were all fearfully and wonderfully made by the same Creator. None of us were made greater or lesser than the other… and we are all beautiful and unique in our own way, with our own talents and abilities. We were meant to love each other for this – to learn and grow and be challenged by each other’s differences and abilities. Yet, here we are - hating, dividing, and tearing apart because of something that none of us have ever had control over. Can we not see how completely counterproductive and ridiculous that is?
Guys, we are all members of a singular human race. We are supposed to LOVE each other, and what hurts one of us should hurt all of us. Yes, we may not look the exact same, but we are all the same on the inside. We were all made by the same great and amazing God. We are all born and we will all eventually die. And more importantly, we each have a role and purpose that is strictly ours. This is the exact reason that God gave us all different abilities and talents – so that we can each contribute and make the world a BETTER place. With this being said, we are stronger when we are united. When the world united, we created amazing things like the Olympics, the League of Nations (the original organization that led to the United Nations), the Unity Rallies that occurred after the attacks in Paris, and the fighting of Ebola and COVID-19. We are capable of so much together, but until we decide we want to transcend and grow from the attitudes, ideologies, and the history that led us to this point, we will constantly be divided. As Caucasians, we have to recognize the fact that we are fortunate that we have not had to experience everything that our fellow brothers and sisters have had to go through to come close to the same opportunities that we have had handed to us. While our ancestors are the ones who started this, we have to be the ones to decide to bury the hatchet and finish it. Whether we recognize it or not, we have privilege and we need to use it to advance the greater good and the unity of society, instead of using it to continue to tear the world apart and allow racism to continue to plague our world.
We are all one, created in the image of our God. The God that bring peace where there was once strife, and kindness where there was once animosity. The Lord who blesses ALL who call on Him. The God that loves each and every one of us regardless of our past, history, nationality, ethnicity, or social status. The God that blessed us all with the same Spirit so that we could be a part of one body. So now, I challenge us all to change the narrative. Instead of dividing and destroying and continuing a narrative that we know is wrong, let us take a lesson from our Almighty God and see people for who they really are and what they have to offer to the world and to the Kingdom. It’s time for us to quit being a product of our history and begin to create the world that we want to be a part of and the place that we want to raise our future generations in. Let’s create the world that we were meant to live in. Together. I love each and every one of you so very dearly and I appreciate you sticking with me through this. You’re all beautiful and we’re going to make this world a better place. We just have to let God lead the way.
